Geoffrey G. (Geoffrey Gunther) Eichholz served as Regents Professor of Nuclear Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology.
Born in 1920, Eichholz was expelled from the Berlin Technical University in March 1939 by the Nazis, following Kristallnacht. At first, he joined relatives in England, settling first at the University of Bristol, where he continued his undergraduate studies. After a period of internment in 1940, he was admitted to the University of Leeds to study physics. He completed his degree at Leeds in 1942, later returning to complete a Ph.D. there in 1947.
After finishing his Ph.D., Eichholz spent a few years in Canada, first at the University of British Columbia and later with the Canadian Bureau of Mines in Ottawa. In 1963 he came to Atlanta to begin a long career at Georgia Tech as Professor of Nuclear Engineering.
