Files have been arranged chronologically, beginning with Heffernan's high school years at Ames High School, proceeding to his years at Iowa State (1925-1931), followed by the Lake Forest and Conde Nast fellowships (1929-1930), his two years at Harvard (1933-1935), and the Paris Prize years (1935-1938). Within each of these groups of files, files have been arranged alphabetically by folder title.
