This series contains the personal papers of Blake Ragsdale Van Leer, fifth President of Georgia Tech. Included here are general personal files (Subseries 1), which mainly cover Van Leer's youth in Texas, his education, and his career prior to his arrival at Tech in 1944. His Army career is also well documented in this series (Subseries 2), particularly his service in World War I, and in World War II, in the Army Specialized Training Division. Van Leer's pursuit of courses in personal efficiency is covered in Subseries 3. A scrapbook (Subseries 4) enhances the documentation of Van Leer's early life, especially his education at the Masonic Home, Big Springs High School, and Purdue, as well as his time in Caen, France after World War I. Books on World War I, United States history, and participants in World War II from Fannin County, Texas, as well as a Bible are among the books found in Subseries 5.
