Society of Women Engineers-Atlanta Chapter scrapbook 1, 1960-1961

 File — Box: 55, Folder: 5
Identifier: Subseries 9

Description

From the Sub-Series:

This subseries documents Van Leer’s activities in the Atlanta Chapter of the Society of Women Engineers and her advocacy and support of the first women to attend Georgia Tech as full-time undergraduate students. Included are her scrapbooks containing newspaper clippings and other materials on the early women students, as well as correspondence and a Georgia Tech Alumni magazine issue containing profiles of selected women students. A draft of a 1952 letter to the wife of the chair of the Georgia Board of Regents is a particularly significant part of this subseries. This letter contains powerful arguments in favor of the admission of women to Georgia Tech.
