The Georgia Tech Student Examinations and Papers Collection includes materials from different departments and schools throughout campus, such as the English, Physics, and Mathematics departments. The bulk of the collection contains examinations from 1890-1891.
As in most academic institutions, Georgia Tech has used examinations as a method of assessment throughout its history. In the early years, according to academic calendars, Tech held entrance examinations, examinations at mid-term (in early February), and probably also final exams. Assessment exams were held in subjects such as mathematics in order to place students in the academic programs. In modern times, tests and examinations are routinely held in most coursework.
