Femspec is a peer-reviewed biannual magazine focusing on interdisciplinary topics relating to gender studies in science fiction, surrealism, folklore, and other literary genres. The magazine was first published in 1999 after a group of scholars noticed a concentration of realist works in feminist literary spaces and wanted to create a space for discussion of non-surrealist works. The first few issues of Femspec were published by the Cleveland State University English department with editor-in-chief Batya Weinbaum, but now operates independently. The publication puts an emphasis on their values of diversity through their contributors and literary subjects. Femspec is still running today with their newest 2023 issue.
