This collection includes 17 unlabeled reproductions of cover art from the Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction. The magazine editions in which this artwork is featured span from December 1968 - February 1973. Collection includes the work of Mel Hunter, Ron Walotsky, Chesley Bonestell, Ed Emshwiller, Diane and Leo Dillon, David Hardy, Judith Blish, Jack Gaughan, and Bert Tanner.
Beginning in 1949, shortly after the conclusion of World War II, The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction quickly garnered a respectable repuation both for itself and the genre as a whole by publishing strictly high-quality literature: it had no interior illustrations or advertisements, which was uncommon at the time. Every monthly issue also included cover art, in which Mel Hunter became famous for his long-standing series of covers depicting a postapocalyptic robot survivor engaging in human activities. Two of these Mel Hunter illustrations are included in this collection. Like many other sci-fi magazines, it saw a decline in popularity in the 1990s, but is still active to this day.
