Georgia Tech created OMED in 1979. The office was charged with the retention and development of traditionally underrepresented students. For over four decades, OMED worked with more than 3,000 students annually through academic and professional programs and initiatives. It focused on a two-tier mentoring philosophy, multidisciplinary cohort building, student-centered exploratory programs, interinstitutional collaboration, and data-driven strategic initiatives to support student success. Today, OMED is represented on campus by the Office of Student Achievement, a unit that focuses on student success.
