This collection consists of 28 studio portraits (gelatin silver prints). Numerous portraits were taken at Stephenson and Cox Studios in Atlanta, Georgia. The majority of these photographs are in fair to good condition with minor image coloring. Also, within this collection, there are 8 gelatin silver prints, which are in poor condition due to cracked mounts, fading, and silver mirroring.
A 1904 graduate of Georgia Tech, J. Walter Estes earned his B.S. in Electrical Engineering and was a member of Phi Kappa Phi honorary fraternity. He later became president of the Rex Chair Company and served in the Georgia State Senate for two terms, from 1938-1940 and 1943-1946.
Series 1 contains photographs of individuals, all of whom are identified students. Series 2 includes one photograph of an identified faculty member. Series 3 contains group photographs.
Mrs. Harold Rice, granddaughter of Estes, donated this collection in April 1985. Accession #1985.0401 (old number: 85-04-01).
