This collection consists of a single report, which discusses the semester system versus the quarter system. The report was written by Floyd Field in February 1936. This report also includes a small survey from other institutions, such as the University of Texas and Cornell University, on the quarter and semester systems.
When classes began at Georgia Tech in 1888, the school was on the semester system; however, in 1946, Georgia Tech converted to the quarter system. This system remained in effect until the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia decided that Georgia Tech, along with the rest of Georgia colleges and universities, would convert to the quarter system in the fall of 1998. Nonetheless, Georgia Tech's conversion did not occur until the fall of 1999, due to the impact of the 1996 Olympics.
A print copy of this finding aid is available in the Georgia Tech Archives reading room.
