The Student Activities Committee records document the committee's activities during the late 1980s. The records contain a group of meeting minutes of the committee; The Ramblin' Reckord, minutes of the Georgia Tech Student Government; and the minutes of the Graduate Student Senate. The collection also includes papers relating to the granting of charters to numerous student organizations. Constitutions and bylaws, policies, fees, and some budget information are also found in this collection.
Since as early as the 1950s, the Student Activities Committee at the Georgia Institute of Technology, a standing committee of the General Faculty Assembly, has supported numerous student government, clubs, and organizations.
According to the Georgia Tech Faculty Handbook, the Student Activities Committee's responsibilities include making recommendations on proposed changes to the constitution of the student body, approving charters of and making recommendations on changes in regulations for student organizations, and reviewing proposals on the amount and distribution of student activities fees. The committee is made up of nine members, five of whom are elected from the academic faculty. Other members include the administrator in charge of student affairs, one graduate student elected by the Graduate Student Senate, and two undergraduate students with at least junior standing elected by the Student Council. The chair of the committee is elected annually from among the five academic faculty members.
The folders are arranged into three groups: Meeting minutes, charters granted, and governance and budgetary matters. Each of these groups is arranged alphabetically by folder title.
