This collection contains notes and lab reports, mainly dating from Darling's time as a student at Tech, but some dating back to his high school years at Blackshear High School. These materials are housed in Series 1. Series 2 consists of football programs, memorabilia, Georgia Tech publications and newspaper clippings, again mainly dating from Darling's student days at Tech.
Edward Lee Darling, Jr. was born on June 15, 1901 in Blackshear, Georgia, the son of a funeral home owner, Edward, Sr., and his wife, Helen (nee Bostick).
He attended the Georgia School (now Institute) of Technology from approximately 1918 until he graduated in 1925 with a degree in Co-Operative General Engineering. While at Georgia Tech, Darling's nickname was "Uncle George" and he participated in the Square and Compass (the student Order of Freemasons), the Co-Op Club, and the Briarean Co-Op Honor Society.
After graduation, Darling moved back to Blackshear, where he worked with his father at Darlington Funeral Home, of which he later became owner. He married Virginia R. Darling. Later in life, Darling served as city councilman and mayor of Blackshear, Georgia. He died on February 21, 1992.
