This is a Living History interview with Harrold P. Bowen, class of 1956 and a member of The Forum, conducted by Marilyn Somers on May 17, 2005 at the Georgia Tech Library on the Georgia Tech Campus in Atlanta, Georgia. The subject is the interviewee’s life, experiences at Georgia Tech, and experiences with The Forum.

Mr. Bowen was born in Americus, Georgia. His father was a farmer and John Deere dealer. Mr. Bowen spent a lot of time on his grandfather’s farm while he was growing up. He was a member of one of the first high school classes to have four years of classes instead of three. Mr. Bowen played football for two years in high school. He enjoyed being at Tech during such an exciting time when the football team was so good. Mr. Bowen rushed Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity at Tech. He chose to major in Industrial Management and he joined the Management Club. Mr. Bowen remembers Dean Griffin, Dorothy Crosland, and Freddy Lanoue. He was involved in the Air Force ROTC while at school but had back problems so he could not go into the Air Force after graduation. After graduation, Mr. Bowen started work with AT&T, then he worked for Piedmont Southern Life, then Fred V. Gentsch Company Inc., and also Reynolds Aluminum. Mr. Bowen saw a niche in the market and then decided to start his own supply company, Bowen Supply Company. His business became very successful and he was invited to become a member of the Young President’s Organization. He was a member of the Rebel Chapter and he highly values the experiences he has had with the Forum. Mr. Bowen and his wife Linda each have two children from previous marriages and they now live in Sea Island, Georgia.
