This is a Living History interview with Mr. Wade T. Mitchell, conducted by Marilyn Somers on May 9, 2000 at Mr. Mitchell’s home in Atlanta, Georgia. The subject of this interview is about his life and experiences at Georgia Tech. Mr. Mitchell was born in Atlanta, Georgia at Emory University Hospital. His father worked at the Draper Corporation. Mr. Mitchell had two older brothers and went to North Fulton High School. When Mr. Mitchell went to Tech, he studied Textiles like his father had done. He also played football for Tech, and went to a bowl game every year. When he graduated, he was commissioned into the US Navy. He served in the Navy for 2 years. Mr. Mitchell worked for West Point Manufacturing but did not like it, and went back home to Atlanta. He got a job with the Trust Company, and got married in 1966. He was involved a lot with the community thanks to the Trust Company, which advocated community service. He served on the Atlanta City Council and the MARTA board of authorities for a while. Mr. Mitchell ended up retiring from the Trust Company as Executive Vice President. Mr. Mitchell now has 2 children, one that went to University of South Carolina, and another who went to Wake Forest. He is very happy with the life he has led.
