Scope and Contents
This is a Living History interview with Turner Warmack, class of 1950, conducted by Marilyn Somers on August 7, 2000. The subject of this interview is his life in general and experiences at Georgia Tech. Mr. Warmack was born on May 11, 1928 in Chatsworth, Georgia. He has two older sisters. He was brought up in a very outdoor environment; often, he and his friends would go fishing and hunting. He attended Chatsworth Grammar School and Murray County High School. Mr. Warmack always thought very highly of Georgia Tech. He planned to attend college at Tech. He attended North Georgia College for two years and then transferred to Tech. He remembers Tech professors such as “High Pockets” Brown, Professor Bortell, and Freddie B. Wynn. Mr. Warmack took a class from Professor Wynn called Investments for the Stock Market, which taught him how to invest in stock. His most difficult course at Tech was the Heat, Light and Sound portion of the Physics sequence. He failed the class three times before passing it during his last quarter. He was a brother in the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity, and enjoyed living in his fraternity house. Mr. Warmack flunked out of day school after two quarters at Tech. He went to night school for two quarters and was then able to return to day school. He was involved in intramural sports such as basketball and tennis. In 1950, Mr. Warmack was drafted into the Army. He was able to get out of fighting by serving in a military government division. He married his wife, Joann, during his time in the Army. The two were married in Alexandria, Louisiana. After returning from the war, Mr. Warmack took a job with Mofit Bearings Company; he worked for them for twelve years. He then worked for Ziegler Tools until his retirement. He and his wife have two daughters, Melissa and Karen. The whole family enjoys Tech football. Mr. Warmack serves on the Georgia Tech Athletic Board. He has also served in other community groups such as the Commission for the Elderly and the Small Business Community Board. He considers himself truly blessed and would not trade in his experience at Tech for anything.
