The Georgia Tech Olympic/Paralympic Planning Office (OPPO) was directly responsible for planning Georgia Tech’s participation in the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games. Georgia Tech served as the Olympic Village and was the venue for boxing and aquatic competitions. The Planning Office took care of project management, communications with the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games (ACOG) and paralympic agencies, contracts for the use of facilities, and details of dormitory and fraternity house construction and renovation. They also handled the provision for Institute operations during the Olympic period.
The Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games (ACOG) (1990-1996) was the private, nonprofit corporation charged with staging the Games. Responsibilities included building the sports venues and the Olympic Village, as well as selling sponsorships and tickets and negotiating media contracts.
The Academic Senior Advisory Group (ASAG) worked in conjunction with OPPO to sustain GT Institute Operations for four years leading up to the olympics. This committee ensured the continuation of academic success and student life on campus through the many changes that occured during the preparation of the games. Some of the challenges they assisted with were housing, construction, offiste relocation of students and student services, and the management of academics regarding research, labs, and security and access.
Metro Atlanta Olympic Games Authority (MAOGA) was the state authority created to oversee ACOGs finances and approve all ACOG contracts to ensure legality and long-term financial viability.

They were responsible for collaborating with committees like Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games (ACOG) where they wrote and facilitated venue agreements and contracts, policies, financials, security details, construction, and parking and transportation. OPPO also had a role in the Georgia Tech Institute academic operations in conjunction with the Academic Senior Advisory Group (ASAG), Paralympic planning and ADA accessibility, and they produced publications for the Georgia Tech and Olympic Village community.
