This collection contains photos collected by the ICPA at Georgia Tech. The majority of the pictures are in black and white, although a few color photos are included in the collection. Most of the photographs are undated, but they are estimated to have been collected between approximately 1980 and 1998. The collection consists of mostly original photography, but some copy photos are included. The photographs are originals unless otherwise labelled.
The content of the photographs varies, but mostly pertains to Georgia Tech students, faculty, alumni, events, traditions, and campus buildings. There are photographs of important figures like U.S. Presidents, Nelson Mandela, and former Mayor of Atlanta Maynard Jackson. Additionally, there are photographs of rocket launches and astronauts that are publications of NASA. Finally, some photographs detail attractions and events that occurred in the Atlanta area.
The Department of Public Relations at Georgia Tech was inaugurated in 1945. In 1958 it was reorganized in order to become a service office, thus centralizing its various responsibilities.
The Office of Institute Communications and Public Affairs (ICPA), has collaborated with the Institute's administration in formulating Georgia Tech's strategic communications goals and implementing strategic communications initiatives designed to reach those goals. Services include strategic communications consulting and planning, media relations, web design and production, video production, photography, special event planning, logo and trademark policy and enforcement, and market research.
ICPA publicizes Georgia Tech through press releases to local and out-of-state newspapers and many technical magazines, hosting press interviews with distinguished guests, radio and television programs, exhibits, and special events. ICPA compiles, edits, and publishes all official catalogs, bulletins, and programs of Georgia Tech.
In 2008, the Institute Communications and Public Affairs office became Georgia Tech Communications and Marketing.
